About Tomizone
Tomizone was founded in 2006 by technology entrepreneurs Steve Simms and Phillip Joe. Tomizone is a well-resourced fast growing private company with headquarters in Auckland, New Zealand and offices in Australia and India.
Our Big Idea
Our initial thinking on the Tomizone business really commenced in the early part of 2006 after a gap was identified in offering easy low cost Internet access globally using Wi-Fi Hotspots integrated into a world-class management platform that's easy to use.
Upon building the prototype system, Steve and Phillip attracted a founding shareholder in K One W One Limited, an investment company owned by Stephen Tindall (ONZM), a renowned advocate and investor in New Zealand innovation and technologies, a philanthropist, and founder of The Warehouse Group Limited.
Launching Tomizone
Our beta version of Tomizone was launched in August 2006, which attracted much media interest at the time. Initially our beta enabled us to demonstrate a simple to set up Hotspot that could be downloaded onto a Linksys Wi-Fi Access Point.
Building Partnerships
Late 2006 saw the conclusion of our first OEM deal with D-Link, which enabled us to work on distribution of our Hotspot software inside a selection of their products. In parallel, the Tomizone team were putting the components together on the general release management platform (version 1!).
Growing The Footprint
Since May 2007 after the general release of Version 1 of the Tomizone Management Platform and the D-Link DI-524UP model in Australia and New Zealand, Tomizone has grown with some incredible milestones such as developing a Dual SSID product, implementing Muni Wi-Fi in New Zealand with Kordia and launching with ISP's in Australia and New Zealand.
Our goal remains to offer low cost Wi-Fi Internet access through a self built network using the best built for purpose Wi-Fi Hotspot authentication and management system available with the best international partnerships to grow a large International network of Hotspots. We're doing it!
